I'm with Chuck Norris

Two years ago this month, when I first asked Chuck Norris to write a weekly political column, I wasn't really sure what to expect.

I had a sense the superstar actor and martial arts champion possessed good character, a moral sensibility and decent political instincts. What I never imagined is that he would see the world in ways so strikingly similar to me and express his mind so ably.

What I have now is a fellow political and cultural warrior – one who recognizes the problems facing America and understands what needs to be done to solve them.

His latest book – and his first overtly political one – "Black Belt Patriotism: How to Reawaken America," is an absolute triumph.

Back in 2003, I wrote a book called "Taking America Back." It was my attempt to do what Chuck Norris does in "Black Belt Patriotism." My book came out just as the Iraq war was beginning – making certain the fundamental issues raised would not and could not be addressed seriously. After all, America was at war.

Today, the Iraq war is all but won. Even Barack Obama has to admit that now. And Chuck Norris is using his celebrity to make an important political statement that needs to be read by every single American if we hope to have a chance of holding on to the precious liberty this country introduced to the world.

He's got it exactly right.

(Column continues below)

I have seen few others nail it the way Chuck Norris nails it.

Don't even think for a moment you won't learn anything in a book by "an actor" or a "martial arts master."

He sets out with a clear vision of the problems besetting us:

  • Americans have forgotten their heritage, their history, the uniqueness of the founding documents that set the country apart;

  • Americans have lost their sense of fiscal responsibility, resulting in mountains of debt – both public and private; (What a timely lesson this is!)

  • Americans have permitted their borders to get out of control, allowed their elected officials to get away with non-enforcement of immigration laws, and tolerated a breakdown in national sovereignty that is leading to "the possible creation of a North American Union";

  • Americans have lost their moral compass;

  • Americans no longer believe in the sanctity of human life;

  • Americans are robbing their children of their innocence and their futures;

  • Americans have participated in the destruction of the family;

  • Americans are getting fat and lazy.

Chuck Norris also recognizes the solutions to these problems and restoration of America's greatness will not come in the political arena alone – not by a long shot. It won't come because we elect the right politician to be president. It won't even come by electing a good Congress.

He sees a long battle ahead – a cultural revolution. And he also correctly surmises, as I did in "Taking America Back," that it doesn't take majorities to kick-start the process and to launch the kind of successful social revolution that is necessary to get the country back on course.

Chuck Norris' reasoning is clear and concise. He doesn't waste words in his book any more than he does on screen.

Here's an example: "To be in debt is to sacrifice your freedom and independence and give someone else power over you. Do we think we can continue to experience freedom politically, and even personally, when our private and national debts loom over us like the king of England once did? Debt is bondage, plain and simple."

Here's another: "It doesn't take many people to foster a revolution. Jesus did it with 12 disciples. George Washington did it with his few suffering troops at Valley Forge. And we can do it today."

One thing I was personally delighted to learn in reading "Black Belt Patriotism" is that Chuck and Gena Norris are homeschooling their children. As I wrote in "Taking America Back," homeschoolers are the vanguard of the second American revolution.

But there is also the recognition in Chuck Norris' work that all of our earthly works are in vain if they are not in the will of our heavenly Father. His spiritual commitment as a Bible-believing follower of Jesus is what, I believe, keeps him optimistic in the face of seemingly overwhelming problems.

Here's the way Chuck Norris puts it: "What our Founders valued above all else was 'their Creator' who had endowed them with their unalienable rights. God is our national treasure. He is at the heart of our Founders' dream for this country. When you've got God, you've got the gold – and all you need to achieve and experience the American Dream."

Do yourself and your country a favor today and get Chuck Norris' "Black Belt Patriotism." I think you will be impressed. And inspired.
