Kenyan authorities detained Jerome Corsi today prior to a scheduled news conference because the WND senior staff reporter was about to discuss findings that implicate Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Sen. Barack Obama, according to the local publicist who arranged the press event.

Peter Mbae of Eagle Communications in Nairobi told WND he conferred privately with five or six of the Ministry of Immigration officers who arrived at the Grand Regency Hotel in the Kenyan capital to take Corsi and his media coordinator, Tim Bueler, into custody just as the news conference was to begin.

"The government is not keen on this matter, because it would be supporting a smear campaign against Obama," Mbae said, summing up his conversation with the officers.

"Jerry was implicating the prime minister," Mbae continued, "and I think the government felt it would be too much to do a press conference on Kenyan soil."

The Kenyan publicist said he was bombarded with phone calls today from media and government officials, including the prime minister's office. The story of Corsi's detention is top news in the country, he said, and the talk on the street.

Mbae said sources confirmed to him Corsi and Bueler were taken to the airport and held incommunicado until their British Airways flight to London tonight.

Kenyan media are "in suspense," Mbae said, camped out at government offices trying to get a complete explanation for their actions.

Government officials have stated Corsi's travel documents were not in order, but Mbae said he doubts that was the reason.

The government moved in, he believes, because Corsi was "going to drop a hot potato."

As WND reported earlier today, Corsi, the author of the No. 1 best-selling book "The Obama Nation," was picked up by authorities at his hotel at 9:45 a.m. and detained at Nyayo House, the provincial headquarters for Nairobi.

Mbae said a major Kenyan daily, The Standard, posted verbatim a press release announcing the news conference and highlighting Corsi's findings on Obama's relationship with Odinga, who was appointed prime minister after his unsuccessful run for the presidency in December was followed by violent protests by supporters claiming fraud.

Obama remained in active phone contact with Odinga through the New Hampshire Democratic Party primary in January, Corsi said. The Illinois senator continued to support Odinga, Corsi contended, turning a blind eye to an agreement signed with Muslims and the post-election violence instigated as part of the campaign strategy.

About 20 local media outlets and 15 international media sources were confirmed to attend the news conference today, Mbae said.
