WACKY WORLD OF THE WEB Bizarre: Bake your own 'fetus cookies' Internet site sells cutters to make treats shaped like unborn babies Posted: November 17, 2008 10:54 pm Eastern By Chelsea Schilling
One company offers Roe v. Wade enthusiasts an unusual way to celebrate the Supreme Court's abortion ruling – with fetus-shaped cookies. Hogmalion sells "Fetal Bites: America's #1 Fetus Cookie Cutter" for $10 on its website. A person identified only as "Big Pig" claimed to have found inspiration for the cookie cutter a decade ago. "Well, I baked up the first batch for an old girlfriend about 10 years ago," the person said. "We were celebrating the 25th anniversary of Roe v. Wade." "Big Pig" continued, "They were tasty little devils, and I just sort of fell in love with 'em. You know, the same way that proud parents have the ability to look at one of their children – no matter what kind of bestial rakehell it was that actually sprung from their loins – and sincerely feel that there's some clearing off to do on the refrigerator door, some bragging to be done." (Story continues below) The company motto is "Pearls for Swine," and its website displays photos of several curled fetus cookies with black dots for eyes. The site, registered to Jason Higgins of Baltimore, Md., features a package of wine corks with faces of Donald Rumsfeld, George Bush, Dick Cheney and Karl Rove, labeled "The Four Corksmen of the Apocalypse." It also sells "Christ Butter" and Obama novelty items – with 10 percent of proceeds going to Amy Goodman in support of Democracy Now.
"I like to consider the Fetal Bites simply as early-stage gingerbread men," "Big Pig" said. "Is there a statement behind them? Not really. Of course, some folks feel the need to attach a statement to absolutely everything. I think Freud said it best (and this may or may not be the exact quote), 'Sometimes a fetus cookie cutter is just a fetus cookie cutter.'" Many people posted online reactions to the fetus-shaped cookies, including the following:
