Stop the bailout mania!

Americans have to decide right now whether they still believe in private property, the rule of law and the free enterprise system.

If you agree with me that these three principles are essential to the continuation of liberty, it's time to tell Washington to stop its bailout mania.

It started in the dark of night before the election. George W. Bush handed the election to Barack Obama and the Democrats with his emergency demand for a $700 billion bailout of big banks and mortgage lenders.

The big banks and mortgage lenders failed because of a combination of bad lending practices and government regulations that required them to make bad loans. But, no matter why they failed, it was not the responsibility of U.S. taxpayers to bail them out, any more than it is the responsibility of U.S. taxpayers to bail you out when you have financial difficulties.

But Washington did it anyway – Republicans and Democrats alike, Barack Obama and John McCain alike.

Take your protest to the streets! "Stop the Bailout!" magnetic bumper sticker shouts your displeasure at Congress.

And the insider Washington establishment got away with it – because Americans didn't yell loudly enough.

Now they're coming back for more – lots more. With the proposed bailout of the entire U.S. auto industry, we are on the verge of ending the free enterprise system as we know it, throwing the Constitution out the window and making a mockery of our so-called commitment to private property.

They're counting on the fact that you won't immediately feel any pain from this treacherous, anti-American power grab. And you won't. The pain will be long-term. The pinch you are experiencing now with the bad economy will linger and grow worse slowly but surely over the coming months and years.

As economic conditions deteriorate, there will be more bailouts. Americans will have lost any sense of cause and effect – not recognizing that the so-called "cure" is actually a lethal poison being administered drop by drop to the body politick and the body economic.

(Column continues below)

The only thing that will put a stop to this insanity is a spontaneous uprising by the American people.

Just like you stopped the Democratic-controlled Congress, at least temporarily, from maintaining its fiscally suicidal bans on drilling for oil and just like you stopped the Democratic-controlled Congress from passing an amnesty bill for illegal aliens, it will be up to you to stop the bailout mania.

It's not going to be easy – especially in light of the election results. Democrats, who are eager to cover-up the criminal behavior and political negligence that led to this economic crisis, interpret the election results as a mandate to do whatever they feel like doing – including stealing more of your money and redistributing as they see fit.

But the long-term ramifications of these policies spell disaster – not only for the economy, but for your freedom and the freedom of your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

It's just this simple: If they can have as much of your money and money that hasn't even been earned yet by your heirs and descendants, then private property ceases to have any meaning, the Constitution is dead and liberty is lost.

Those are the stakes.

That's what we have to deal with.

It will be an uphill battle all the way.

Are you ready to fight?

Are you prepared to raise your voice of protest?

Or, are you going to sit by and allow the rule of law and the will of the people to be subverted because it's just too much trouble or you are too busy with more important things?

Stop the bailout!

Stop future bailouts!

Just say no.

Take your protest to the streets! "Stop the Bailout!" magnetic bumper sticker shouts your displeasure at Congress.
