<![CDATA[MightyText, “The iMessage for Android,” Targets iCloud With New Cross-Device Photo And Video Sync]]> Today, our lives are spread across a growing array of digital devices, from smartphones and laptops to tablets and connected TVs. While each device tends to perform certain tasks better than others, as we use tablets to read books and shop, laptops for work-related tasks and smartphones to check the weather, stocks and email, increasingly, our devices are working together in concert and becoming interchangeable by keeping us connected to the cloudy Web. Yet, in spite of the fact that we live in an increasingly connected and multi-platform world, when it comes to texting, we find ourselves locked in to our phones. ]]> <![CDATA[The deal Goodreads should’ve struck (hint: it wasn’t with Amazon)]]>

The Dropbox Sync API allows apps for iOS and Android to treat files stored on a user's Dropbox account as if they were local, managing syncing, caching, offline access and tracking changes easily so that developers only have to worry about building an app, and not the storage and management of the files users create with said software. ]]> <![CDATA[Synacor Partners Expands Agreement with Cable ONE]]> Synacor (NASDAQ: SYNC) has expanded its agreement with Cable ONE, a leading provider of cable, high-speed Internet and phone services, to offer HBO GO and MAX GO services to subscribers. Why don’t they matter? Its users tell them so by not using them. In a “Winter Cleaning”, there were some minor cuts, and a somewhat major one, the shutdown of Punchd, its loyalty card app and service. Merchants must not have been getting their bang for the buck by integrating it into their offerings. The sync service drops are interesting, specifically Google Sync Exchange within Gmail, Contacts and Calendars. The last Google “cleaning” was the official death of Wave, so the company doesn’t mess around when things just never stuck with its users. The company says it aims to make things more “seamless” in 2013, something we’ve seen with its Chrome, Gmail, Google+ and Maps apps for iOS recently. Here’s what Venkat Panchapakesan, VP, Engineering, had to say: Technology offers us a way to make a big impact on the world. In 2013, we’ll keep working hard to build a seamless, amazing Google experience for you. The following will be going away: - On January 4, 2013, we’ll be shutting down several less popular Google Calendar features. You’ll be unable to create new reservable times on your Calendar through Appointment slots, but existing Appointment slots will continue working for one year. In addition, we’ll discontinue two Calendar Labs—Smart Rescheduler (we recommend Find a time view or Suggested times as alternatives) and Add gadget by URL. Finally, Check your calendar via sms and Create event via sms (GVENT)—U.S.-only features for creating and checking meetings by texting information to Google—will be discontinued today, as most users prefer mobile Calendar apps. - Google Sync was designed to allow access to Google Mail, Calendar and Contacts via the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync® protocol. With the recent launch of CardDAV, Google now offers similar access via IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAV, making it possible to build a seamless sync experience using open protocols. Starting January 30, 2013, consumers won’t be able to set up new devices using Google Sync; however, existing Google Sync connections will continue to function. Google Sync will continue to be fully supported for Google Apps for Business, Government and Education. Users of those products are unaffected by this announcement. - In addition to Google Sync, we’re discontinuing Google Calendar Sync on December 14, 2012 and Google Sync for Nokia S60 on January 30, 2013. We’re also ending]]> <![CDATA[Synacor Launches Startpage for Lenovo PCs]]> Synacor (NASDAQ: SYNC) today announced with Lenovo (OTC: LNVGY), the successful launch of Lenovo's startpage experience for consumers on Lenovo PCs. Germany-based Fruux, which was founded in 2010, offers a simple and elegant solution for keeping your contacts and calendars in sync between all of your phones, tablets, laptops and desktops. With the assistance of programs like Dropbox and SugarSync, it is possible to cobble together a workflow that doesn't drive me crazy. When I last looked at SugarSync the service was in it's infancy and I found it slightly lacking. All of my concerns, two years ago, have been address and now you have a fully versioned storage system that you can use to feasibly upload a plethora of files including, but not limited to, MP3s, videos, and documents. Audio and video files, for the most part, played natively on the iPad. However, if you need to transfer odd formats or edit Office or iWork documents (you can view them just fine) you'll need to email the files to yourself and them open them in Pages. This two step process, while upsetting to those afraid of more than one step, is frustrating at worst and a non-issue at best.]]> <![CDATA[Sync2 Networks Corp.
