Hasbro (HAS), like its competitor Mattel (MAT), reported that toy sales have been weak in the United States, and the news is sending shares about 5% lower this afternoon.
Hasbro posted 4 cents of EPS, 4 cents below expectations. Net revenues in the U.S. & Canada fell 16%, and operating profits plunged 65%.
“The results reflect growth in the Preschool category offset by declines in the other product categories,” the company said.
The company, which targets most of its products to boys, saw revenue in boys’ products rise 4%. But girls’ product revenue fell 18%, despite growth in the company’s My Little Pony line.
International revenues grew 14%.
Retailers have been less willing to load their shelves with toys after a weak holiday season, Reuters notes.
Nasdaq quotes delayed at least 15 minutes, all others at least 20 minutes.
