Mattel to Cut Carbon Emissions and Reduce Packaging; Bombardier’s eco VHS Train Wins Third Design Award - Energy Minute for October 31, 2012

Mattel plans to cut its carbon emissions by 40 percent by 2015 and 50 percent by 2020, from a 2008 baseline, as part of the company’s first set of measurable sustainability goals. Mattel also aims to improve its packaging material efficiency by five percent by 2015 and increase the amount of recycled material and sustainably sourced paper and wood fiber in its packaging to 85 percent, also by 2015.

Bombardier’s very high speed –VHS--train was named as a top product design in transportation by winning the German Design Award for 2013. The train combines pioneering levels of passenger comfort with leading-edge technologies and advanced aerodynamics to reduce energy consumption. It is the third design award for the train, which is also considered to be the world’s most economical and eco-friendly VHS train.
