Barbecan Announces First Patent Allowed For LRD Robotic Security Portal
PR Log - Dec 27, 2012 - A guard at a building entrance won't stop a determined and well armed attacker - especially if they have suicidal motivations.  The LRD portal WILL NOT let an armed gunman enter a building.  Period.  When a threat is detected, the portal reverses and the potential assailant is backed-out of the portal.  Gun control is not the answer.  The installed base of potent weapons is just too large.  To prevent another mass shooting like Newtown, Columbine, or Virginia Tech, a new solution is needed.

In addition to threat sensors, LRD Portals have sensors to track the position and movement of people walking through.  The portal robotically follows their pace as they walk. If the pedestrian walks quickly, the portal door panels move quickly.  If they walk slowly, the portal operates slowly. It they stop, the portal stops.  Operation is completely safe, and by adapting to the pace of pedestrian traffic, LRD Portals can be used in high traffic entrances like schools, malls, theatres, stadiums, and factories.  Portals can be stacked to offer even higher traffic rates, and direction is programmable to adjust to times when entrance or exit activity dominates.

Video animations for PCs and video animations for MACs showing the LRD Portal in action can be seen on the Barbecan website at These show a constant traffic flow, however in reality each portal adapts to the pace of each pedestrian. Also note that the tops of portals have been removed for clarity.  In reality the tops would be sealed to prevent weapon passing.

Applications for LRD Portals include:
·       Schools, Colleges, and Universities
·       Shopping Malls and Theatres
·       Banks
·       Embassies, Consulates, and Military Bases
·       Stadiums and Conference Halls
·       Courthouses and Government Buildings
·       Ground Transportation - Train, Underground, Bus, and Ferry
·       Airport Main Entrances
·       Airport Exit Lane Breach Control (one-way door without threat sensors)
·       Factories
·       Customs and Immigration Checkpoints
·       Hotels and Office Buildings

Both US and International (PCT) patent applications have been filed for the LRD Portal technology.  For more information on investment opportunities, technology licensing, and joint venture opportunities, please contact:
