Illinois Tool Sales Fall Short, Steel Makers Struggle

Illinois Tool Works (ITW) said fourth-quarter earnings and revenue rose slightly on growth in North American markets. The diversified manufacturer said earnings rose 1% to 89 cents per share, in line with analyst estimates. Revenue rose 2% to $4.2 billion, but fell short of estimates for $4.3 billion. Illinois Tool shares were down nearly 3% intraday Tuesday. Revenue from the North American division rose 1.6% while international revenue fell 0.5%.
