As the share price of Google (GOOG) rises, while Apple Inc.(AAPL) shares continue to fall, many wonder whether investors will rotate out of AAPL and into GOOG.
Apple, which used to be at the top in regards to market value of U.S companies, has been taking a hit in the past few months. The company was beat out by Exxon(XOM) in January for most valuable U.S company, and now Google is trailing right behind.
While Google reached its all time high of $821.50 per share on Monday, Apple saw a 52 week low of $420 per share on the same day, falling -40% from its all time high in September.
Although not all analysts agree, many see Google has taking over as the most valuable tech company. As for Apple, many do not see the company continuing to grow, while Google continues to expand.
Apple continues to lose market share in the mobile sector as competition from Samsung products increases. As Samsung products continue to take market share from Apple products, Google benefits since their operating systems are run on these products.
In 2012, Google’s Android operating system had 68.8% of the market share for the five most popular smartphones, while Apple’s iOS software only had 18.8% of the market share.
Many analysts see Apple losing market share to Google products everyday. Just recently, Google announced that it plans to open physical store locations to allow customers to test products that they are considering purchasing.
As shares of Google continue to rise, and Apple stock plummets, many investors may now moving be away from Apple, and buying shares of Google.
Apple shares were up $2.58, or 0.61% during premarket trading Tuesday. The stock has declined -23% in the past year. Google shares were up $5.82, or 0.71% during premarket trading Tuesday. The stock has increased 32% in the past year.
