On March 16th 1999, a Sony-owned video game studio called Verant Interactive released a 3D, fantasy-themed online game called EverQuest. Launched to modest expectations, it soon eclipsed its competitors in popularity, and before long had such a devoted fanbase that some began lovingly referring to it as "EverCrack."
