Stocks Get Hit, But End Off Day's Lows
Stocks came well off their session lows, but still finished lower after a volatile session Monday. The S&P 500 fell 1.2% and the Nasdaq gave up 1.1%. Fears over a credit squeeze in China (see story on Page A1) and continuing concerns over the Fed's unwinding of quantitative easing had the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq down as much as 2% and 1.9%, respectively. Remarks from Fed officials helped stocks pare losses starting around noon Eastern Time.
