MEDIA MATTERS Is it Castro, or Hitler? Fidel's photo doctored in Cuban Communist paper Posted: December 30, 2003 5:00 pm Eastern © 2009 WorldNetDaily.com
An employee of Granma, the official Communist newspaper of Cuba, appears to have put himself at risk of the totalitarian government's wrath after doctoring a photo of dictator Fidel Castro to make him look like Adolf Hitler. According to a report in the London Guardian, a Dec. 4 front-page photo shows Castro speaking at an anti-terror war event with a Hitler moustache replacing Fidel's trademark beard and a dark-haired comb-over. Castro has gray hair.
When the offending issue of Granma hit the streets, the paper reports, party officials snatched up as many copies as they could to try to prevent international news coverage of the scandal. The photo was taken as Castro, dressed in a military uniform, addressed North American students. The Guardian reports a spokesman for Granma confirmed an investigation is underway and that the photographer is not being implicated. Some in Cuba say the images of people sitting behind Castro also were changed to make them look like Mafiosi wearing dark glasses.
