A 17-year-old high school student from upstate New York faces up to a year in jail for threatening to kill President Bush and attack the White House.

"I'm going to blow up the White House and Kill you and your family," John Fellows admitted he wrote in an e-mail message. "You're a stupid peace [sic] of [excrement] and deserve to Die!!!"

Police reports indicate Fellows wrote the message to "get back" at a fellow student following a dispute with her last November.

Fellows admitted using the girl's name to log on to a computer at Oswego High School.

"This thing has been blown way out of proportion," Fellows' attorney Joseph Pagano told the Oswego Daily News. "There was a female involved here. There was no genuine threat here."

Fellows could have faced five years in prison if he pled to federal charges, but his guilty plea to an aggravated harassment charge in Oswego City Court carries a maximum of a year behind bars, along with probation and orders to stay away from the president. His sentencing is slated for July 6.

"Mr. Fellows is an honor student and he made an unfortunate mistake," Pagano told the Daily News. "To be prosecuted federally is just too much for my client. He just wants to put this behind him. He's an excellent student, comes from a very good family."
