JERUSALEM – Several prominent leftist Israeli politicians advised Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas how best to advance the Palestinian cause, extract American concessions and apply pressure on Israel for his meeting today with President Bush, WorldNetDaily has learned.

Abbas told reporters yesterday ahead of his first White House meeting as PA president that he plans to discuss the establishment of a Palestinian state that includes the West Bank, eastern Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

He said the Palestinians are prepared to make "painful sacrifices" to fulfill his vision.

"We are committed to negotiations as the only means to achieve this vision of a two-state solution," said Abbas, who became president after PLO leader Yasser Arafat died in November. "What is needed from the United States is a clear political position on fulfilling this vision."

Abbas landed in Washington yesterday armed with the advice of several key Israeli leftist figures.

On Monday, following a session at Abbas' Ramallah compound with a delegation of 400 international opposition leaders, dovish Israeli politicians Ephraim Sneh, Yossi Beilin, Amram Mitzna and about 20 others met with the Palestinian leader.

The Israelis outlined key points for Abbas to bring up in his talks with Bush, a source present at the meeting told WND.

"They were very excited to meet with Abbas," said the source.

Beilin, leader of the extreme left Yahad opposition party and one of the architects of the 1993 Oslo Accords, told Abbas he should ask Bush to ensure there is a political process after Sharon's plan to evacuate Jewish communities from Gaza and parts of the West Bank is carried out this summer, said the source.

"Beilin told Abbas to understand that America isn't in a position to pressure Sharon until after the Gaza disengagement is carried out. That Sharon for now pretty much has a free pass. But he suggested that Abbas make it clear that after the withdrawal, Bush needs to press for a continuation of the political process and talks. That disengagement can't just be the end of it," the source said.

Beilin then advised Abbas on how to extract American concessions, said the source.

"He told Abbas that Bush feels a little guilty about the Iraq campaign and is under pressure because of it, so Bush needs to compensate by helping the Palestinians."

Sneh, a prominent Labor politician, advised Abbas "that because the Bush doctrine is all about democracy, Abbas needs to stress that he was elected democratically. Abbas should say he deserves sympathy and credibility from the U.S. because he is a 'democratically' elected leader, after Israel, the only one."

The source said Sneh attended the meeting after arriving in Israel less than an hour before.

"He rushed straight to Abbas after landing at the airport a half hour earlier."

Miztna, a Labor Knesset member who unsuccessfully ran against Sharon for prime minister in 2000, reinforced the opinions of Sneh and Beilin, said the source.

Other politicians present were Labor's Colette Avital and several members of the leftist Meretz party.

Abbas' White House meeting today comes as the Palestinians continue to violate a cease-fire agreement announced in Egypt Feb. 8 by Abbas and Sharon, security sources told WND.

Last week, a would-be suicide bomber was arrested on his way to carry out an attack at a West Bank checkpoint. A list of Palestinian attacks the past two weeks, obtained by WND, include three Qassam rockets and over 40 mortars fired at Jewish communities, 17 Molotov cocktails thrown at Israeli citizens and an anti-tank missile fired at an IDF outpost in Gaza.

Palestinian violations of the de facto truce since February include more than 300 rocket and mortar attacks against Jewish communities in Gaza, a suicide bombing and several attempted bombings attacks and the smuggling of heavy weaponry from Egypt into Gaza's Rafah region with the assistance of Hamas and Palestinian intelligence, say security sources.

As well, official Palestinian media has increased the level of anti-Semitic and anti-Israel incitement the past few months, according to several media watchdog organizations.

The Palestinian media embarked on a two-week anti-Israel incitement campaign to mark Israel's Independence Day earlier this month, culminating in an exclusive interview with an armed terrorist praising suicide bombers, Michael Widlanski, an associate of Independent Media Review and Analysis, told WND.

Palestinian television also debuted an anti-Israel music video for children that claims Israel took Palestinian land, reported Palestinian Media Watch.

WND broke the story that an official Palestinian Authority information website directly affiliated with President Mahmoud Abbas published on its Arabic language section a copy of the ''Protocols of the Elders of Zion,'' a classic anti-Semitic forgery claiming Jews are plotting world domination, while the English section does not contain the work.
