Professor to soldiers:
Kill officers in Iraq

Always remember this: "Tolerance – the great "virtue" of the American left today – never applies to those who do not share their opinion." Also remember this: "Jerky college professors who are intolerant of others always believe themselves superior to everyone else."

Picture your college-age daughter working hard in extracurricular activities to bring a much respected war hero to her college campus to speak to students about his experiences. When she innocently invites faculty to attend, she receives a reply that not only threatens her, but proceeds to suggest that America's fighting men and women commit treason and execute their commanding officers.

Think it wouldn't happen? It did ... this week.

Rebecca Beach, a freshman at Warren Community College in New Jersey, had worked hard to invite the decorated hero of the War on Terror Lt. Col. Scott Rutter to appear yesterday to discuss the progress being made in Iraq. In response to her invite, Beach received this: "Real freedom will come when soldiers in Iraq turn their guns on their superiors."

John Daly, the professor who responded, went on to tell Rebecca "that he will ask students in his English and writing classes to boycott the event and also vowed "to expose [her] right-wing, anti-people politics until groups like [Rebecca's] won't dare show their face on a college campus."

And he added, "CAPTIALISM has killed many more" people than communism [emphasis his] and that the "poor and working class people" are recruited to "fight and die for EXXON and other corporations."

Now Professor Daly may believe he is immune to any reprisals for his actions. Then again, he might receive loads of e-mail from people that might point out his hypocrisy.

Miss Beach would like to see a good dose of recompense be paid for threatening her, and more importantly calling for acts of treason by our troops against their commanding officers. She is now demanding that Warren Community College President William Austin begin a series of seminars that cover such controversial and un-American ideas as free speech and "sensitivity training" for jerks like Daly, who don't even have the sense not to threaten freshman students, much less to go so far as to put it in writing. By the way, if you would like to persuade President Austin to take action, his address is: austin@warren.edu.

If Warren Community College does not hear from significant numbers of people, they will not be forced to take action. And if they do not, Professor "John the Jerk" will feel justified in threatening other incoming female college freshmen who do not agree with him.

It takes a small man to think the kinds of thoughts that Daly did. It takes an incredibly stupid one to put it into writing.

Why any professor should feel the need – much less the desire – to say that our fighting men and women should execute their commanders is beyond me. But honestly, doesn't this rise to the level of giving "aid and comfort" to our enemies? Isn't inciting assassination of respected military leaders a crime under some criminal code somewhere? Shouldn't action be taken beyond the "sensitivity training" that Miss Beach is cleverly calling for?

Until people of true conscience stand up and fire back, this kind of abuse will continue to be poured out into today's culture. And though normally 10 years ago some sort of restraint would have caused Daly to think twice about pulling such a stunt, whatever restraint that existed is gone. And now, according to the left, the only real way to win the war on terror is to side with those who seek to kill us.

Of course, if I were to call for a protest outside of Daly's office say on Monday, he would lay the accusation against me that I am trying to quell his freedom of speech. He might be right. But that stops far short of what I'd like to do to him if Miss Beach were my college-age daughter.

Maybe he can't help the fact that he's an obnoxious, cantankerous jerk. Maybe he can't stop himself from firing off missives in utter stupidity against a college freshman who is far more organized and media savvy than he gave her credit for. Maybe he's just a traitor who should be tried for treason and punished accordingly.

Whatever the case, does he continue to deserve the right to interact with young people on the college campus?

I know, I know, I know ... it's very intolerant of me to say so.
