Jennifer Lopez of the Weather Channel

Does the Weather Channel believe Al Gore should have been president of the United States?

Bloggers say an on-air remark by meteorologist Jennifer Lopez suggests a clear political bias.

During discussion today about Al Gore and his ongoing testimony about alleged global warming, Lopez reportedly referred to him as "former Vice President although we like to refer to him as former President-elect Al Gore," according to a post at FreeRepublic.com.

Other viewers say they heard the same remark, with one writing the Weather Channel with the message, "Please stop pissing on half of the electorate, many of whom still watch your channel for weather coverage, not your lacking political commentary."

The Weather Channel has been under fire recently after another one of its broadcasters, Dr. Heidi Cullen, suggested meteorologists not be certified if they are uneducated about so-called climate change.

"If a meteorologist can't speak to the fundamental science of climate change, then maybe the AMS (American Meteorological Society) shouldn't give them a Seal of Approval," Cullen said. "Clearly, the AMS doesn't agree that global warming can be blamed on cyclical weather patterns. It's like allowing a meteorologist to go on-air and say that hurricanes rotate clockwise and tsunamis are caused by the weather. It's not a political statement ... it's just an incorrect statement."

CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric

Meanwhile, CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric is speaking highly of Gore on her news blog:

The last time Al Gore came to Capitol Hill--six years ago--he was there to certify the electoral college results that made George Bush president.

But today it was a triumphant return, this time as a private citizen, to declare that the world faces a "planetary emergency" over climate change. And now, a lot of his skeptics agree that Gore makes a powerful point.

The scientific consensus is clear, and Gore urged Congress to listen to scientists, not special interests. He pushed for an immediate freeze on greenhouse gases, as well as cleaner power plants, more efficient cars, and stronger conservation efforts.

Gore said "a few years from now...the kinds of proposals we're talking about today are going to seem so small compared to the scale of the challenge."

Here's hoping Congress puts partisanship aside, and comes together to act boldly on global warming.
