"On Sept. 11, 1857, in an unspoiled valley of the Utah Territory – and in the name of God – 120 men, women and children were savagely murdered. Who ordered the massacre, and why has it been hidden? A cloak of secrecy and conspiracy and the reputation of one of this nation's mightiest religious figures has been preserved and protected. On August 24th the truth will be revealed."

This is the teaser for the new movie, "September Dawn". It is a Hollywood-made movie aimed squarely at the Mormon church.

Mormon Missionary Parley Pratt was murdered in Arkansas in the summer of 1857. The massacre was perpetrated on a wagon train made up of people from three counties in Arkansas who were on their way to California. Most non-Mormon historians believe Mormon elders directed the massacre as retribution for the murder of Parley Pratt. Pratt was a polygamist who took the wife of the wrong husband. It just so happens that Parley Pratt was the great, great grandfather of presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Yes, the very same former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney who looks like a movie star and is smooth enough to talk a starving dog off of a meat truck.

All sides agree that Romney looks good, sounds good and is someone most Americans would not mind seeing on television for the next four years. That's why stalwarts of both parties have decided that he must be stopped. Romney must go.

(Column continues below)

Romney is about to get a bipartisan one-two punch from the political "establishment." The Republican and Democrat "deciders" appear to have entered into a silent agreement. They have moved their artillery into position for a late summer attack on Camp Romney.

The Democrats have Hollywood, and Hollywood has "decided" to release "September Dawn" just as the Republican primaries heat up. The movie is sure to exact heavy damage on the reputation of the Mormon church and therefore, wannabe Mormon in Chief Mitt Romney.

The Republicans also have a well-positioned artillery battery. While the press is yapping about how much Romney has to spend and has spent in the early primary states, conservatives, along with the Bush fundraising machine, are moving into position for the long run.

Wary of the Mormons, the Republican stalwarts have real questions about Romney's religion. His flirtations in the land of libs makes him the flip side of the flip-flopping coin. As I reported previously, there were hundreds and hundreds of brightly colored flip flops printed with Romney position changes floating around CPAC, (the conservative's premier conference), this year. The establishment GOP may not be so worried about Romney's actual positions on social issues as they are about taking the risk that he would be "swift boated" so fast by the Democrats in a general election that it would make what happened with John Kerry's demise look like a clumsy political trick.

So, the Bushies and the good ole guys in the party have gone into action. This week, George Prescott Bush, the president's nephew, endorsed Fred Thompson. Also this week, President Bush put Ed Gillespie on the White House staff. Gillespie is the former RNC Chairman and has been in recent conversations with soon-to-be presidential candidate Fred Thompson. Just in case you were wondering, if only the Bushies were on the Fred Thompson campaign, it was recently revealed that Elizabeth Cheney would be joining him as an adviser. That adds the Cheney fundraising prowess and the neocon mafia to round out Team Thompson. He is racking up some big name talent to ensure Romney does not make it out of the gate with the conservative base.

Their tactic will be very straightforward: Take a very recognizable senator/actor who espouses conservative values with no liberal rhetoric/baggage, (one that will bring a state, i.e. Tennessee with him), and crown him king. Few people know Thompson's true views on issues, as he did not have a very tough political fight when he ran for senator. That is serving him well. It is easy, therefore, for him to step into the shoes of the party's favorite president, Ronald Reagan. Thompson's blog on his official site imwithfred.com begins with three Ronald Reagan issues. First, you see a video of his speech to the National Right to Life Committee, then a photo and interview that Fred Thompson does with the speechwriter of the President Reagan "Berlin Wall" speech and finally a blog about cutting taxes. A remake of Reagan for President? You Bet!

Romney is in for his own "September Dawn," and it's not going to be a bright one after the press starts feeding on the "September Dawn" as it hits the movie screens in August. We'll watch the talking head shows discuss how this will impact the Romney campaign. After we have digested that, then we'll watch how the rest of the GOP party establishment jumps on the Fred Thompson bandwagon. The Romney presidential camp will be reeling from the establishment attacks on their candidate.

Amazing, the Dems and GOP working together to get rid of someone from outside Washington's comfort zone. Who said they couldn't get anything accomplished?
