Where the religious right is wrong

As I read the news that Dobson and Company decided to back a third-party candidate if the GOP nominated a pro-abortion candidate, I asked myself why. I wondered why Janet Folger, in an article for WorldNetDaily, would back Mike Huckabee given his dismal record as a governor and his wishy-washy mish-mash of constitutional positions.

Then I began to realize why the religious right has lost its way in politics. It boils down to three things: control, fear and a lack of faith. Allow me to explain my thoughts.

The United States of America is predominately a "Christian" nation, by most accounts, founded on Judeo-Christian precepts. It is also (at least at one time) a constitutional republic with the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution with its Bill of Rights, based upon the Judeo-Christian precepts of the Bible, as the supreme law of the land – with "We the people" vested with the power of government, limiting the scope and power of the government by our founding documents and the guarantee of a republican form of government.

You would think, given these facts, that "Christian leaders" would want a candidate who is pro-states rights, pro-life, pro "We the people," pro-Constitution and Declaration, anti-unjust imperialistic war and a Christian known by his "fruits." Yet, this is exactly what they do not want. There is just such a candidate out there on the GOP side, but they refuse to see or acknowledge him. In fact, Folger in her piece on the next president didn't even have him in Huckabee's Cabinet. So, why do they opt for a third-party guy or a Huckabee who seems to have some morals, but also has a not-so-good record as governor? They want someone they can control, someone in their pocket.

(Column continues below)

They stand on just a few issues such as abortion and sodomite unions, and want a president who will stand up and say these things are wrong. Ron Paul is against these issues, yet the way he would go about dealing with them is constitutional, which is the only way to rid the nation of them. They cannot buy Ron Paul because he stands on principles they have long lost. They wish to legislate morality at the federal level, something no president in centuries has done, or is able to do, nor does the Constitution permit him to do so – yet they refuse to see or acccept that. Much more could be said for their coveting of control, but let's move on to their fear.

Fear and control go hand in hand. They fear Hillary will be elected and abortions will run rampant (they already do); they fear that the sodomite culture will invade our schools, government and culture ( it already has); they fear the sodomite lobby will hold sway (they already do); and they fear our precious Christian country will be destroyed (it is being done under their Christian pawn George W. Bush). These things are happening because every special interest group, including the religious right, is trying to control, lobby, buy, bribe (against biblical principles) and legislate their whims and desires on a federal level rather than according to the supreme law of the land, based upon its Judeo-Christian founding. This – along with public ignorance and apathy of the duty and power of we the people, according to our republican form of government – is destroying our country.

Let us now move to their lack of faith. As Christians, our lives should be lived by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Eternal, which is the whole of the Bible. Scripture tells us that He will send a Comforter, the Holy Spirit, and it will live in us and guide us into all Truth. Therefore, each Christian should take these precepts along with the Holy Spirit (remember we are a predominately Christian country) and engage our culture, engage society, and engage and redress our elected officials, as we are the true government.

We the people and the Christian right have let our "government" get out of control, and we stooped to the ways of the baby killers and sodomites and try to buy and pressure politicians rather than hold them accountable to the Declaration and Constitution. They, our "Christian leaders," have no faith that the Almighty has the strength and ability through His Spirit and His Word to guide each Christian to engage society and redress the government, of, by and for we the people. They have no faith that Christians, using His Word and His Spirit, can govern themselves. By seeking to control Congress or a president to legislate against the supreme law of the land, they are doing the same things the sodomite lobby, Big Business lobby, military lobby and all other lobbyist groups are doing, and that is undermining the intending workings of our civil constitutions. They are, in effect, removing the power of we the people to govern ourselves on an individual, local, state and very limited federal level, according to our Declaration and Constitution, and putting the power back into the hands of the lobbyist, politicians and judges.

If we are truly a Christian people, then by removing the powers that these groups and the federal government have taken upon themselves and stolen from we the people, and putting them back into the hands of a predominately Christian people, then we the people can retake this country. When that happens we will not have to worry about sodomite unions and culture in our schools or abortions on demand as a means to birth control or any other number of ills of society funded and approved by the bought and paid for federal government. In order to do that we must have a president who will lead us, begin to educate the masses to the limited government spelled out in our civil constitutions and envisioned by our Christian Founders. He will make politicians take a stand in front of the people, allowing the people to take control of their elected officials, thus returning power back, as it is intended, to we the people. Then you will see on the individual level, local level, state level and federal level the people of this predominately Christian country begin to make a real difference.

The only candidate that will try and do these things is Dr. Ron Paul, so quit ignoring him. It is way past time for the "Christian" leaders in the country to get behind this man so that we the Christian people of this country can begin to engage our government and our culture. It is past time for Christian leaders to quit trying to control an unconstitutional government in unconstitutional, if not immoral, ways, to stop fearing what if, and to have faith in the Almighty and His people. It is time for you to back Ron Paul and vote for peace, security, liberty, real Christian family values and begin to put the power back into our hands so that we can make a difference.

Robert M. Smith
