Denver abortion clinic builder issued warning

'Is money from project enough to justify 30 years of protests?'

A company building a major abortion business structure in Denver has been warned by a national paving coalition to break off work on the project, or else "my fear for you is that we are the first of hundreds of companies that will begin collaborating against The Weitz Co."

The warning comes from a vice president for the coalition of 1-800-ASPHALT, which reports having contractors in 44 states from New York to California, and has contracts for millions of dollars in asphalt and site work.

At issue is the work Weitz is doing for Planned Parenthood in the Denver area, where a new mega-clinic abortion facility is being developed.

Because of the work, Will Duffy, a spokesman for the Collaborators Project, told WND that Weitz has been given a deadline tonight to stop work on its Planned Parenthood abortion business in Denver, or be declared a "permanent collaborator."

He said that would mean pro-lifers then would expand the typical targets of their protests, now focusing on abortion businesses and abortionists' homes, to include "residential picketing of executives and business sites of any organization designated with Permanent Collaborator Status."

It is the potential picketing of subcontractors and customers that has Jamie Scott, the 1-800-ASPHALT vice president, worried. And in a letter to several Weitz executives he expressed his concern.

"I strongly urge you to reconsider building this abortion clinic. I believe that what you are doing is morally wrong but let's put aside the moral argument for one moment. It has been made clear to you by Mr. Duffy and countless other pro-life leaders that if you do not pull out of this project by Jan. 31st, they are prepared to begin the long grind of protesting your business offices, work sites, and homes for as long as Planned Parenthood is doing business in the building you are preparing for them. Now from a business standpoint, I have one question to ask of you. Is the money you are making off of this abortion clinic enough? Is it enough to justify what could be 10, 20, even 30 years of protests at your business sites? Is it enough to justify having these people protesting your home on every major holiday? Is it enough to justify having the Weitz company name and even your own names linked forever with child killing? And this is only what the pro-life groups are prepared to do," he said.

He wanted the Weitz executives to know he was not "just another local company."

"We have been busy building this network now for 10 years and are growing at a record pace."

"How many more businessmen across the country, like me, will stand up to be counted? Maybe worse for you though would be the people who for various reasons will not speak out publicly but privately protest your company by steering contracts away from you and doing their part by secretly protesting. There are already organizations and business owners meeting here in Indianapolis to determine what to do if you earn Permanent Collaborators Status. My fear for you is that we are the first of hundreds of companies that will begin collaborating against The Weitz Company if you do not pull off of this project," Scott wrote.

The coalition also posted a "public service announcement" for callers to the 1-800-ASPHALT number in Colorado to hear:

If you are in Colorado and looking for asphalt, this is an important public service announcement about a major construction firm. The Weitz Company, W-E-I-T-Z, a nationwide construction firm, has a history of not warning their subcontractors, nor their clients, of serious problems that arise when working with Weitz. It is very possible, even likely, that protesters may show up at your home if you hire, or work for, the Weitz Company. Weitz built an abortion clinic in Denver Colorado, and many of the most aggressive anti-abortion street protest organizations have committed to the long-term protest of the homes of Weitz clients and subcontractors, for as many years as Planned Parenthood is doing abortions at the clinic built for that purpose by Weitz. This has been a public service announcement for the benefit of contractors and building customers considering working with The Weitz Company.

Support for the Collaborators project has come from Colorado Right to Life, the "nation's oldest right-to-life organization, and the largest anti-abortion group in Colorado," said spokesman Joe Riccobono.

"This means that for as many years as Planned Parenthood is killing children in the building prepared by Weitz, we will plan protests, and encourage our members statewide to include Weitz executives' homes and select construction and sales sites as part of the decades-long, routine protest of abortion," he said.

The American Life League also has endorsed the plan.

Flip Benham, of Operation Rescue/Operation Save America, also noted that "battle-hardened street protesters" from all around the nation have joined in the commitment to continue the protests.

"Weitz' clients homes will be a significant part of our effort to ensure that there is no child killing with tranquility," he said.

Further, with the Democratic National Convention being held just up the road from Weitz' largest division, and just down the road from the Weitz abortion clinic, "OR/OSA is coordinating with other anti-abortion protest groups to include Weitz Denver-area clients such as the fashion store Hermes in our DNC protest plans," said Benham. "Operation Rescue/OSA is committed to effective, yet peaceful non-violent protests."

In his letter to the company, Duffy earlier noted that the future protests, should the status be designated for the company, would be "at your homes as allowed by law through the year. We will protest especially on every major holiday, and we will continue for as many years as Planned Parenthood kills children in the facility you are preparing."

He also raised questions about what other potential Weitz customers would think in the future when their "high-end condos …, retirement communities, business facilities, golf courses" are targeted by abortion protesters.
