Syria’s deputy prime minister Qadri Jamil has said that his country’s civil war has reached a stalemate and suggested that a ceasefire and the launching of a peaceful political process could bring an end to the conflict. The remarks came as new footage from the Syrian town of Aleppo emerged showing rebel fighters engaged in close quarters house-to-house combat with government troops stationed just metres away.
