A figure following the name of the agency indicates the number of
permanent, investigative personnel engaged in domestic law enforcement.

With noted exceptions these special agents are now (or will soon be)
authorized by a two-year blanket deputization (through September 30,
1999) by the Justice Department to execute search warrants, make
arrests, and carry firearms.
