WASHINGTON — Patrick Knowlton, a key witness in the death of the late White House Deputy Counsel Vincent Foster, filed an amended complaint in his civil rights lawsuit in connection with the federal investigations of the mysterious death.
Knowlton’s suit claims that the civil rights violation is part of an FBI
cover-up of the facts of Foster’s death.
Among the defendants now named in the case is Robert F. Bryant, deputy
director of the FBI, for actions he took while special agent-in-charge of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Field Office. Also named is the deputy
medical examiner for Northern Virginia, Dr. James C. Beyer, who performed the autopsy on Vincent W. Foster, and FBI lab personnel.
The suit is filed in U.S. District Court in Washington.
Knowlton’s suit recounts that he witnessed suspicious activities in and around Fort Marcy Park in Virginia, where Foster’s body was found, an hour before its discovery. When Knowlton later learned that the FBI falsified his account, he was subpoenaed, and, beginning the same day he received the secret grand jury subpoena, claims he was harassed.
A year ago, in October 1997, a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal panel ordered Kenneth Starr to attach Knowlton’s submission to his Foster death report.
That submission includes FBI investigative records in the case, which, according to Knowlton’s lawyer, prove the FBI cover-up.
