The Washington Times reported yesterday that it has obtained a draft of the
Clinton administration’s future military strategy that suggests the National
Security Council believes America is increasingly likely be attacked with
nuclear, biological, chemical, or cyber weapons.
The attack will likely come from terrorists or a rogue nation, the draft
reads. Furthermore, it states that America is “facing its biggest espionage
threat in history.”
In a front-page story, the paper noted the conclusions arrived at in the
draft were not only alarming, but alarmingly contradictory. One example
cited was the statement in the document that “The threat from foreign
intelligence services is more diverse, complex and difficult to counter than
ever before,” an assessment backed up by the findings of the Cox Report that
Chinese spies stole nuclear secrets. Yet, noted the newspaper, the draft
“has nothing but praise for China. It cites China’s efforts to stop North
Korea from obtaining nuclear weapons, while ignoring Beijing’s long history
of exporting components for weapons of mass destruction.”
It is Washington Times correspondent, Bill Gertz, who is credited with
alerting an audience beyond the modest reach of his newspaper to America’s
compromised national security by writing the book, “Betrayal: How the
Clinton Administration Undermined American Security,” and effectively using
the New Media to make it a best-seller. “Betrayal” got the word out about
the imminence of such threats as a rogue nation, like North Korea, hitting
mainland America with an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).
North Korea could “lob chemical or biological weapons not just on Alaska and
Hawaii, but on some of the western United States as well,” Gertz wrote in
“Betrayal.” He described how Pentagon officials not only confessed to him
that they were caught totally off guard by the nuclear capabilities North
Korea demonstrated with a missile test last summer, but were now gripped
with fear “that with just one more test the North Koreans could achieve
something few other nations had done: develop an ICBM.”
With an ICBM, North Korea could hit not just Alaska and the Hawaiian
Islands, capabilities which it probably already possesses, Gertz reveals in
“Betrayal,” but an ICBM possibly loaded with chemical or biological weapons
could hit the mainland United States.
Gertz will be the featured speaker at WorldNetDaily’s first conference: “New
Media to America’s Rescue,” next month in Los Angeles. (To hear an audio
clip of Gertz talking about the conference on a recent radio show click

(audio clip courtesy of Starcast.net).
Gertz will be joined at the WorldNetDaily conference by other New Media
personalities such as WorldNetDaily.com Editor Joseph Farah; columnists
David Hackworth, Geoff Metcalf, and J.R. Nyquist; Judicial Watch Chairman
Larry Klayman and House Manager James Rogan, R-Calif. New Media personality
Matt Drudge is also considering an appearance.
This distinguished panel’s presentations on “The New Media to America’s
Rescue” will be held Sept. 17-19 in Los Angeles at the Hilton Universal.
Gertz told WorldNetDaily that without the New Media the facts about how
President Clinton ravaged America’s national security revealed in
“Betrayal,” “would never have gotten the exposure they did.”
Gertz credits the release of information from the book on the Internet prior
to its publication as a major factor in making it an instant best-seller.
Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman,
whose relentless filing of Chinagate lawsuits against the government also
helped expose the national security scandal, notes that, “Increasingly
today’s political battles are being fought with tomorrow’s technology. The
Internet, electronic mail, and other tools of cyberspace are taking on an
ever-greater role and importance. That’s why we need to not only keep up
with the latest technology, but use it effectively.”
The conference will analyze the New Media as a tool for spearheading
journalistic, political, ethical, and legal reform.
“Betrayal” might never have been published and, even if it had, few
Americans would ever have known of its existence, let alone found it so
convenient to buy, without the New Media.
Furthermore, says Klayman, the struggle to repair our national security
remains the all-important cyber-battle. Says Klayman, “George W. Bush’s
announcement that high-tech export barriers to China should be lowered shows
that the Chinagate scandal will survive long beyond the next elections.
Democrats and Republicans have looked the other way with regards to the
actions of their big donors in breaching U.S. national security.”
The conference will kick off Friday night, Sept. 17, with a VIP cocktail
party followed by Saturday’s all-day program of speakers and a ceremony at
which Bill Gertz will be presented with an award for excellence in
investigative journalism. On Sunday, Sept. 19, the conference will close
with a champagne brunch and question-and-answer session with Bill Gertz and
other speakers. To make participation possible for the greatest number of
people, WorldNetDaily is offering three levels of attendance:
1) For $50 you may attend either Friday night’s or Sunday morning’s social
events.
2) For $139 you get Saturday’s packed all-day program of speakers — the
meat of the conference — plus a gala luncheon and morning refreshments.
3) For $169 you get to attend all three days’ events: Friday’s VIP cocktail
party, Saturday’s all-day program with gala lunch and morning refreshments
and Sunday morning’s champagne brunch and question-and-answer session with
Bill Gertz. Plus you also get a copy of Gertz’s best-selling book,
“Betrayal.”
For those who want to commute each day, parking at $10 a day is available in
the Hilton Universal’s underground parking lot.
For those who wish to stay over Friday or Saturday night, a special
conference rate is available of just $133 per room, per night.
The Universal Hilton is a renowned luxury hotel almost unique in being
within walking distance of many of Los Angeles’ most famous restaurants and
attractions. The hotel is also convenient for those flying in because it’s
just minutes away from Burbank airport.
