According to Taiwan’s news media, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton’s
two brothers, Hugh and Tony Rodham, had a lunch meeting in Taipei on
Friday with the Taiwan’s Vice President Annette Lu, along with other
government officials and legislators at the Lai Lai Hotel.

One report, in the

China Times Interactive,
said “Vice President Lu exchanged views with the Rodhams on Taipei-Beijing relations and on the impact of the Korean summit on the cross-strait situation …”

Sources in Taiwan told WND that Taiwanese television news crews and print media, upon hearing of the Rodham brothers’ secret meeting with the island’s vice president, immediately rushed into the hotel but both the vice president and the Rodhams had slipped-out through a secret path.

A cameraman later traced their steps along the 100-yard path, which extended from their dining table to the kitchen and a storage area in the hotel basement.

Local media questioned Taiwanese government officials about the unusual visit, asking if the first brothers-in-law were engaging in fund-raising activities for their sister’s Senate campaign.

Officials, though reluctant to respond immediately after the hotel incident, later confirmed that the first lady’s brothers were in fact in Taiwan and adamantly claimed that in no way were Taiwanese government officials getting involved in United States fund-raising.

Others reportedly present at the secret lunch included National Security Council Secretary-General Chuang Ming-yao, Mainland Affairs Council Chair Tsai Ing-wen and Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission Chair Chang Fr-mei.

The reason for the Rodhams’ visit is still unknown.
