Preparing for the days ahead

By Tom Ambrose

As I watched Elian’s plane leave the ground last week, my eyes
welled-up with tears. I could not help but wonder what lay ahead for
this tormented little boy. Indeed, whether you agreed with Elian going
back to Cuba — or not — make no mistake about the fact that both he
and the people of the United States will likely pay a terrible price for
this sorry episode.

Or do you think that those photos we got of Elian being hauled away
by Reno’s thugs was just an accident? Normally, Clinton has done most
of his nasty deeds in the dark and on the sly; denial has been his modus
operandi. Does it not bother you, then, that a photographer was put
into place to catch the whole ugly episode close-up and in living color
for the American people to fret over?

We were being sent a message folks. Unmistakably, that message was:
“We’re the Federal government and we can do whatever we damned well
please any damned time we want to do it. Don’t mess with us — or
else.”

Think about that for a moment. Think about the numerous abuses of
power by the Clinton administration which you have seen over the last
few years. Think about how arrogantly and frequently we have been lied
to by the tag-team of Clinton-Gore-Reno and their criminal cronies.
Does it really surprise you that they now have brazenly shined a light
on their dirty activities when they know full well that even our
spineless senators won’t punish an impeached president?

Where does it stop?

In the end, dear reader, this must stop with you and me if we want
any hope of taking back our nation.

“How?”, you ask. “What can little ol’ me do?” OK, let me spell it
out for you.

Turn off your television. Better yet, get rid of it.

Next, if you are not yet registered to vote, get off the couch and go
get registered. Do it NOW! The election is only a few months
away. Usually you can find registration tables at malls and fairs on
the weekends or at your county registrar’s office during the week.

When these things are done, stay off the couch and contact the county
central committee of the political party you belong to (or the
headquarters of a candidate you believe in). Send them — not the
national organizations — a generous monetary donation and find out how
you can donate your time.

What will you be asked to do? Brace yourselves folks — these are
really tough jobs. Lick envelopes. Fold letters. Call people. Sit in
malls and help get people registered. Walk and drop literature on
doorsteps.

Believe it or not, this is what grass-roots politics is made of:
ordinary people doing ordinary things because they love their nation and
their values and their families enough to invest some of themselves to
make sure they win.

The liberals do this; they’ve been winning for a long time. What is
your excuse? Why aren’t you out there? Find someone to watch your
children once a week, stop whining and start working. This is
your country. Start acting like it.

Finally, for those of you who love the sovereign, living God and are
tired of enduring this moral vacuum, consider His words:

If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if
I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among
My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and
pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear
from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

(2
Chronicles 7:13-14).

As I write these words, I wonder if what I am feeling is similar to
what Captain Von Trapp felt as he prepared to sing “Edelweiss” to his
fellow Austrians while the Nazis were overtaking his beloved country.
Surely, the speed at which our nation is being driven into the arms of
Immorality and Corruption is appalling and frightening.

Does it have to be this way? Are we too blind, stupid and lazy to
get off our butts and help fight for what we know is right? Are you who
call yourselves “Christian” too busy to seek God each and every day of
your lives?

It is, sorrowfully, too late for poor Elian. It is not yet too late
for the United States. Not just yet. But it will be very soon.

Goodbye, Elian. We’ll miss you.
