Though candidates traditionally get "bumps" in polling data immediately following party national conventions, a new poll has GOP nominee George W. Bush with an already commanding lead over likely Democratic challenger Vice President Al Gore.

Friday, 48.2 to 30.8 percent.

Rasmussen Research conducted the telephone surveys of 2,250 likely voters from Aug. 1-3. The margin of sampling error for the full, three-night sample is +/- 2 percentage points, with a 95 percent level of confidence.
Meanwhile,
Bush leads Gore in electoral votes, also by a wide margin.

The Texas governor leads the vice president in states with 341 electoral votes, compared to Gore's lead in states with 88 electoral votes.
States with 109 electoral votes are a toss-up, Portrait of America analysts said.

Bush's electoral-vote count has risen substantially compared with surveys taken immediately after Super Tuesday, researchers said.
