We have to act now, America. And there are things each of us can do stop the insane antics of the immature miscreants in Beijing.
After my column last week, where I suggested boycotting Communist China, I received e-mail from many people. The vast majority agreed, but there were a few panda-huggers who thought we should eat humble pie — replete with chopsticks and soy sauce — apologize to China for protecting ourselves and promise never to do it again.
You’ve just gotta wonder what planet those folks have been living on.
Aside from the fact that we were in international waters and doing the very same thing Communist China itself does, China is clearly on record as wanting to do harm to the United States. We have every right to protect ourselves.
For those of you who are inclined to side with the Communists while complaining about the evil United States, I respectfully submit that you should buy yourselves a one-way ticket to China and inquire about taking up residence in one of their heavily-populated prison facilities. There, you will find many people — like yourselves — who dared to challenge their government’s views and have been tortured for their efforts. We certainly have serious problems in the United States — no argument — but, by the grace of God, they are not anywhere near the level of atrocity found in Beijing.
For those of you who have not yet made up your minds, let me remind you of some recent history.
Many people tried to scare Americans into not voting for President Reagan with the fear that he would “push the button” and start World War III. And Reagan did indeed take a strong hand in building up our military. But the scaremongers were badly mistaken. The Soviet Union imploded and the Berlin Wall came down. Why? Because Reagan showed strength and the Soviets discovered that their badly-flawed economic and political system would not allow them to compete.
Unfortunately, the Chinese learned the wrong lesson from the Soviet collapse. By increasing trade with us, they have tried to avoid the economic mistakes of their neighbor to the north while simultaneously continuing to build up their military.
Actually, it’s even worse.
They are using the money from their trade with us to fund their nasty plans. They have demonstrated their contempt of the United States in numerous ways and now we are paying for the very guns, bullets and nukes that they want to use against us! This is insane! Unless you fancy your children and you sporting glowing nuclear suntans sometime in the next decade, we should just surrender to the Communist Chinese right now.
Either that, or let’s take away their guns, bullets and nukes and tell them — in no uncertain terms — that we won’t let them play their dangerous game.
How do we do that? Shut down Red China’s economic machine. Stop letting them use our own dollars against us.
- Tell our government representatives to revoke their Most Favored Nation trading status.
- Boycott and stop funding the 2008 Olympics — and their advertisers — if the International Olympic Committee insists upon patronizing China and holding the games there.
- Inform Wal-Mart, Sears and any other stores that sell Chinese products that you will no longer buy from them unless they promise to not get their goods from Communist China.
- Check every label and tag to verify that China was not a part of the manufacturing process and, if you find one, get in the store manager’s face and tell him you won’t come back if he doesn’t stand in solidarity with America instead of China.
Even if it is inconvenient or even more expensive, in a world where it so often feels like we don’t have a lot of say, can we not at least show some backbone and vote with our pocketbook, America? And let’s keep doing this until China not only releases the hostages and our airplane, but stops their build-up of nasty toys, stops butchering babies and stops torturing dissidents and Christians.
We have a choice. Communist China is trying to hurt us. It’s time to put an end to their terrorism. It’s time to put an end to the insanity in Communist China.
