Another Clinton lie? Ho-hum

By Jon Dougherty

The New York Post ran a story Wednesday which basically proved, once again, that there isn’t a person involved in national politics with the last name of “Clinton” that isn’t a born-again liar.

According to a “bombshell” memo, the paper reported that “Hillary Rodham Clinton wanted a convicted cocaine dealer sprung from prison, and it was ‘very important’ to her, the former first lady’s brother told the White House. …”

“The handwritten note, on White House stationery, appears to contradict Clinton’s repeated claims that she knew nothing about brother Hugh Rodham’s pardon-for-pay work to get her husband to free drug trafficker Carlos Vignali,” said the paper.

There’s more.

“‘Hugh says this is very important to him and the first lady as well as others,’ says the note, which investigators said is from a file on the Vignali matter kept by Bruce Lindsey, who was former President Bill Clinton’s closest White House aide,” the paper reported.

The note was written about last December or January, said the Post. It is in the National Archives files for the Clinton White House and bears the stamp “Clinton library photocopy.”

“It suggests either Rodham lied to the Clinton White House, or Hillary Clinton lied when she later denied knowing anything about the pardon, for which her brother was paid $204,000 by Vignali’s family,” the Post reported.

Granted, it would be so much like Bill or Sen. Hillary Clinton to let someone else – even a close relative – take the fall for a scandal, just to keep up the fa?ade that these two losers are really just misunderstood saints and that everybody picks on them. Nothing is further from the truth.

But on the other hand, so what if one or both of them are caught lying again? By now most people with more than three brain cells know what kind of people the Clintons are. Many of us even expect them to lie. We’d be shocked, in fact, if they ever told the truth.

There’s something else, too. No one in Washington who has the power is going to do a damned thing about this, if in fact it’s true.

President Bill early on earned the moniker, “Slick Willy,” for his so-called ability to get out of trouble or, at a minimum, keep from having scandal hurt him politically. But was he so “slick,” or are there just too many other Condits in the woodpile in D.C. who don’t want to muddy Bill and Hill’s waters for fear that somebody will put a stick in their pond as well?

Hillary, her brother Hugh, and husband Bill may have lied to us all about another aspect of the presidential pardon scandal, the Post says.

My response is, “And … ?”

Yes, I know – such apparent apathy doesn’t bode well for our republic.

Well, that may be true, but what bodes much worse is the official misconduct that is sanctioned by official Washington every day of the week – misconduct that will continue to thrive until enough Americans are sick enough of the Clintons and Condits to choose other parties, other leaders, to lead us.

If that happens, then someday we can again express legitimate shock and dismay when one of our leaders is caught in a lie or a scandal.

Then again, leaders with integrity and honor aren’t usually involved in many scandals, are they?
