Blaming ‘whitey’

There’s an axiom that says if you kick a dog long enough eventually you’re going to get bitten. Black leaders have been kicking “whitey” by blaming “him” for everything that is wrong with the black community for so long that they’re now in danger of being kicked back.

Am I saying that whites are going to start taking physical reprisals against blacks? Well, no – at least, I hope not. And I’m not advocating that. What I’m talking about is kicking back politically to combat a pervasive “I hate whitey” mentality.

According to many black leaders, it’s “whitey’s” fault that the black illegitimacy rate is approaching 50 percent.

It’s “whitey’s” fault that a near-majority of young black men between 13-25 are in jail, have been in jail, or have been arrested at least once.

It’s “whitey’s” fault that drugs are ravaging the black community.

It’s “whitey’s” fault that millions of inner-city blacks still live in poverty.

It’s “whitey’s” fault that poor, mostly black inner-city schools are failing to teach youngsters what they need to know to get ahead in life.

It’s “whitey’s” fault that all of these things are happening to blacks because of slavery.

It’s “whitey’s” fault because “whitey” is “keeping blacks down.”

And so on.

Is this criticism accurate? Are all 220-plus million whites in America racist towards blacks? Do they all want blacks to fail, want blacks to die poor and drug-addicted, want black children to be fatherless, and want blacks to be illiterate?

Many black leaders would love to convince you that yes, this is exactly what whites want. But don’t buy this bill of goods because it’s bull sneakers.

I’d like to let the nation’s “anti-white” black leaders in on a little secret – “whitey” doesn’t have the time, power or desire to do all of the things he’s accused of doing, especially the part about being so blindly racist.

Yes, there is racism. But racism exists between members of all ethnic societies. That’s why many sociologists, through the years, have observed that “multicultural” nations tend to fail because different ethnic factions so often cannot live together. The Balkans provide an example of this; so does the Middle East.

Does that mean, however, that all of us – regardless of color and creed – cannot be “Americans”? That depends.

We can be, if we want to be – if we make a conscious choice to be nothing but Americans. No “hyphenated” anything. I’m not a “Euro-American,” I’m an American, period. There is no such thing as an “African-American,” “Asian-American,” or “Hispanic-American.” Everyone’s ancestors, except for “Native Americans,” moved here from some other country or continent in the last 500-or-so years. That’s how America came to be; that’s what America is. That “diversity” is what we are supposed to be celebrating.

But unless we stop singling ourselves out, and until leaders of one ethnic group stop blaming all of their problems on members of another ethnic group, don’t think for one second that American cannot degenerate into another Yugoslavia, Macedonia, or Palestinian-Israeli conflict. We can and we will.

Whites are already alienated from black political and cultural leaders, and they’re becoming alienated from Hispanic leaders as well. But whites, like any other ethnic group in this country, will only take the blame for something that is not their fault for so long – just as blacks rose up and rightfully demanded that they were no longer to be treated like second- and third-class citizens in their own country.

Black and minority leaders need to get a new act. They are selling their own people into more poverty and hopelessness by fostering a climate of victimhood instead of ambition. Also, they are “anti-community,” in that they don’t seem to want to become part of an “American” community because they foster so much hyphenated divisiveness.

That isn’t “whitey’s” fault.
