White House says VP not ill

WASHINGTON – Vice President Dick Cheney’s spokeswoman put to rest rumors swirling around the Internet that the No. 2 in command is ill, telling WorldNetDaily that he’s been busy in meetings on Capitol Hill.

Cheney has all but dropped from public view over the
past two weeks, after appearing in photo opportunities
and on television several times in the days following
the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He gave a lengthy
interview to NBC’s Tim Russert on Sept. 16.

He was conspicuously absent from President Bush’s
Sept. 20 congressional speech rallying the nation
behind the war on terrorism. The White House explained
that the Secret Service kept the potent back-up
president away as a security precaution. He has spent
the night at Camp David instead of the vice
president’s mansion on several occasions.

“He’s doing great,” said Cheney spokeswoman Juleanna
Glover, who says she accompanied him Tuesday on the
way to a meeting on the Hill regarding the economic
stimulus package. He appeared later with the president
during a press briefing at the White House.

“He’s fine,” she told WorldNetDaily. “There’s nothing to worry about.”

Cheney, defense secretary during the Gulf War, has had a history of heart problems and has been hospitalized at least twice since the election.

Glover says he has undergone no new medical treatments since Sept. 11.
