A meeting between U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait Richard Jones and a group of Kuwaiti students to discuss terrorism was canceled because of a bomb threat, the Arabic-language television network Al-Jazeera reported yesterday.

The ambassador expressed his regret that the threat of violence stopped the dialogue, Al-Jazeera said in a report translated by WorldNetDaily.

The U.S. Embassy called the decision to cancel the meeting “a security call.” The Kuwaiti University was evacuated as a result of the bomb threat.

Jones had also planned to talk with students about current military operations against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

Al-Jazeera reported that the government of Kuwait strongly condemned the terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon Sept. 11.
