Harry Browne, a successful investment adviser for 30 years, author of 11 books that have sold more than 2 million copies and former Libertarian Party presidential candidate, begins writing a weekly column for WorldNetDaily today.
While Browne has written many columns for WorldNetDaily in recent years, today he begins a regular weekly feature exclusive to the most popular independent newssite.
In 1996 and 2000, Browne was the nominee of the Libertarian Party for president of the United States – making hundreds of media appearances and traveling to 92 cities in 30 states in 2000 alone.
He was unknown to the investment world when his first book, “How You Can Profit from the Coming Devaluation,” was published in 1970. The book warned the dollar would be devalued, inflation would become severe and that gold, silver and foreign currencies would skyrocket in value. The book’s message clashed with the prevailing wisdom, but it was in tune with the concerns of hundreds of thousands of Americans – and the book made the New York Times bestseller list.
His 1974 book, “You Can Profit from a Monetary Crisis,” was an even greater success – staying on the Times bestseller list for 39 weeks and reaching No. 1. Its message amplified the themes of his 1970 book and allowed thousands of investors to profit from the turmoil of the late 1970s. He followed this with five more big-selling investment books – including another Times bestseller.
Meanwhile, in 1973 he had published “How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World,” a non-investment book that continues to be in demand today. (A 25th anniversary edition with a new foreword and afterword was published in 1998.) His most recent book is “The Great Libertarian Offer,” published in June 2000.
His financial newsletter, Harry Browne’s Special Reports, was published from 1974 to 1997. He was one of America’s best-known investment advisers.
Because of his political activities, he remains in constant demand as a public speaker. And he has made numerous appearances on national TV shows – such as “Larry King Live,” “Meet the Press,” “Nightline,” “Politically Incorrect,” “Hannity & Colmes,” and broadcasts on CNN, Fox TV News, C-SPAN, FNN, PBS and MSNBC – as well as on hundreds of radio shows.
During 1998 and 1999, he had a weekly three-hour radio show on Sunday evenings on the Talk America Radio Network. He was one of the very few public personalities pointing out in advance that Y2K wouldn’t create widespread problems. He now has a Friday show, broadcast on WTAN in Tampa, and aired over the Internet.
Currently, he is the director of public policy for the American Liberty Foundation, a nonprofit organization producing and airing libertarian television ads.
He was born in New York City on June 17, 1933, and grew up in Los Angeles. He graduated from high school but attended college for only two weeks. He has lived in Canada and Switzerland, and he now resides in Tennessee.
Since 1985, Browne has been married to the former Pamela Lanier Wolfe. He has a grown daughter. His main non-professional interests are classical music, opera, operetta, good food and wine, sports, drama, television and fiction.
