America’s next priority to prevent mass terror is to protect against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the means to deliver them. I wish I could report to the American people that this threat does not exist – that our enemy is content with car bombs and box cutters – but I cannot. … We must move beyond the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty. America and our allies must not be bound to the past. We must be able to build the defenses we need against the enemies of the 21st century.
President George W. Bush
Dec. 12, 2001
That is a welcome statement by President Bush – one of the most welcome statements he has made since assuming office.
But it should also serve notice to all Americans. The president is telling you the truth. America is defenseless against weapons of mass destruction – whether they are hand-delivered in the form of a dirty nuke or hurtled toward us by intercontinental ballistic missiles.
For too long, America has relied on a doctrine of mutually assured destruction as a defense. That doctrine assures only one thing in the future – destruction.
As welcome as President Bush’s decision is to abandon the ABM treaty and deploy a missile shield, it only represents half the equation needed to protect American civilians from certain death and suffering in the future.
The other half of the equation is fully explored in the current issue of Whistleblower magazine. And that is good, old-fashioned, long-forgotten civil defense.
There is simply no substitute to fallout shelters for America. A whole generation of Americans has grown up without any awareness of civil defense shelters – which dotted the landscape of the country in the 1960s.
The story of how that under-funded system was ultimately scrapped a decade later without any national debate is part of the story we tell. We also explore why they are vitally necessary now and economically feasible to build again.
America no longer understands the concept of defense. Defense is not about projecting military power in foreign lands. That is offense. Defense means protecting the homeland and its civilian population. It’s time to start thinking about defense again.
No defense program for America will be complete without a civil-defense plan, without massive education about the coming threat and how to meet it.
I urge you to read the January issue of Whistleblower from cover to cover to familiarize yourself with this issue. Only if Americans understand what they are up against – and how vulnerable and ill-equipped their government has purposely left them – is there a chance to put this issue on the front-burner of the national debate.
We intend to do that here at WorldNetDaily and the January issue of Whistleblower is, pardon the expression, the first strike in that battle.
I want to see this issue discussed on every talking-head TV program in the next 30 days. I want to see radio talk-show hosts raising the questions we are raising. I want to see politicians understanding that they will not be returned to office without a commitment to fulfill their constitutional duty to real defense. That will happen only if you help us – only if you make it happen.
What will it take? It will take getting up to speed. It will take educating yourselves and your neighbors. It will take widespread dissemination of the information in our magazine and companion pieces you will be seeing on WorldNetDaily continuously beginning right now.
I believe we can do it. I have to believe we can do it. Without that hope, it is inevitable that America will someday soon face a cataclysm that will make Sept. 11 look like a cakewalk in the park by comparison.
Let the president know he’s doing the right thing in scrapping the ABM treaty. Let the Congress know you support that decision 100 percent. But don’t let it rest there. That’s only a good first step. The second and more vital step is a national mobilization for a shelter-based civil-defense program.
It’s cheaper than you think. It’s more critical than you know. It’s the right thing to do. And the time is now.
