WASHINGTON -- If you're driving a big truck with more than two axles, or more than four tires even, on the part of Highway 110 that runs alongside the Pentagon, don't even think about suddenly veering off toward the nation's military headquarters.
If you do, you will more than likely be mowed down by two M-60, .30-caliber (7.62 mm) machine guns mounted atop Humvees posted along the highway approaches.

The guns are manned by specially trained Military Police whose job it is to protect the Pentagon around the clock from suicidal truck bombers.
Virginia state troopers have set up a checkpoint on the highway approaches, in advance of the Humvees and the MP roadblock. They're running their flashers continuously to give truck or bus drivers advance warning to stop.

Trucks or buses that turn down the road toward the Pentagon without permission will be fired upon by the MPs, sources say.
Asked about the intimidating perimeter security, a Pentagon counterterrorism official said the MPs are specially trained soldiers from tactical divisions like the 82nd Airborne.

"Training includes counterterror and urban warfare, as well as normal civil-liberties and powers-of-arrest issues that these type troops need to have,
particularly when interfacing directly with the public," the official told WorldNetDaily.
He says the MPs have been rotating in on a periodic basis since the Pentagon was attacked by terrorists Sept. 11.
