“Good gosh, oh golly. Things are just getting out of hand.”
No, that doesn’t quite do it.
“Gol dang it, things are out of kilter.”
No, that doesn’t do it either. Sometimes, you just have to aim for the bull’s-eye.
“God d-a-r-n it! This has got to stop!”
There, I feel better.
OK. OK. I apologize to those offended by my use of the Lord’s name, but I thought I’d use it before it becomes a word we never, ever, ever hear, almost anywhere.
The drive to rid our culture of God and decency is moving along like an out-of-control freight train, despite Sept. 11.
That day must have given the American Civil Liberties Union heart palpitations. Think about it: The horror, the mayhem and the death brought out the most basic human emotions – the need to cling to hope and to believe in something greater than ourselves … God.
We were awash in patriotism (horrors!) and enveloped in prayers (even worse!).
The godless had to endure seeing public prayer – on television even! There was the sight of priests giving blessings to Catholics and non-Catholics alike. And think of it: politicians in church!
There was the huge cross, made of steel building beams pushed together, found in the WTC wreckage. Mainstream media mostly ignored it, but the cross was honored by emergency workers and the “little folk.” It was blessed and considered a miracle, of sorts.
Imagine the effect all that public expression of religion and God had on those dedicated to removing all traces of them from our lives. Too bad it didn’t last. Barely out from under the immediate memories of that infamous day, we’re being hit between the eyes again.
Just today, word is the ACLU won again. As a result of its lawsuit, a federal judge ruled it’s unconstitutional (UNCONSTITUTIONAL, for heaven’s sake!) to say grace before meals at the Virginia Military Institute.
Never mind that it’s been done for nearly 50 years.
Never mind that no one objected. Well, almost no one. Actually two (TWO?!?) cadets complained. I guess they were “offended.”
There’s an old religious custom called shunning. Perhaps the Corps should do that to those “offended” students. Shun them. Tolerate them, of course. After all, we are supposed to be tolerant. Tolerate them, but ignore them. Don’t speak to them unless absolutely required. Don’t include them in any activities. Don’t acknowledge their existence. Just do what you have to, but no more. Let them know by your polite tolerance that they “offend” you.
As for VMI, stop taking federal money. That’s the rationale for the court decision. You’re prostituting yourself, and I doubt that’s part of the VMI Code of Ethics.
Never to be accused of consistency in anti-religion, the ACLU is threatening to sue a town in Florida because of a proclamation by the mayor not to permit Satan in town. It seems one resident was – all together now – “offended”!
Scorecard: God out. Satan in.
The New York City Board of Education ruled that a sign saying “God Bless You” – put up in front of a school after Sept. 11 by the parents association – is illegal and must be removed.
God loses again.
And it’s not only God. Decency is losing too. Last night, I read some approved curriculum materials used in the Los Angeles Schools. They are part of the “diversity” programs for students. They are filth.
I’m not being dramatic and I’m not a prude. This is material so sexually explicit and graphic that the only place it should be found is in a porn shop.
In fact, that’s exactly where the kids can go to buy the recommended books. In fact, the schools give the kids the addresses of adult bookstores and sex shops so they can buy what they want, and websites so they can see what they want.
Subject matter: gay and lesbian sex and lifestyle. Want to know what to do? To whom, how, with what, how it feels, how to make it feel better and on and on? It’s all there, with the approval of the schools.
And, the courts too. I talked last night to a teacher who sued. What a battle. One loss, one decision pending.
And, it would seem, the state legislature also. A bill which simply said “The promotion of homosexuality in public education is prohibited” was defeated last week in the Assembly Education Committee. All Democrats voted “no” and that killed it. Bill author Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy (R-Arcadia) said among his opponents were gay groups, the California Teachers Association, the National Organization for Women, the American Association of University Women and, – ta da – the ACLU.
You don’t have to wonder what’s going on. There’s a concerted effort to get God and morality out of the schools and to present, advocate and promote the gay lifestyle to children.
An education task force in California has recommended that gay issues be blended into every grade level, K thru 12, and every subject area – from math to history, art to chemistry.
It’s not just California either … it’s across the country.
Parents: Better pay attention, ask questions, demand to see curriculum and know what’s being done to your children in school. If you don’t, there’ll be more than the Devil to pay.
