Farah among Lebanese-Americans honored

What do the following people have in common – Ralph Nader, John Mitchell, Frank Zappa, Doug Flutie, Donna Shalala and Joseph Farah?

Not much, you say? Well, according to the United States Committee for a Free Lebanon, they are among the “300 Most Prominent Lebanese-Americans.”

“There are about 3 million Lebanese-Americans, and as a community, we’ve been demonstrating our loyalty, inventiveness and courage on behalf of the United States for over 100 years,” said the group in releasing the list.

Besides political activist Nader, former Senate Majority Leader Mitchell, former White House Chief of Staff Sununu, late musical satirist Zappa, quarterback Flutie and WorldNetDaily founder Farah, the organization listed 50-year United Press International Washington correspondent Helen Thomas, singer-songwriter Paul Anka, the late comedian Danny Thomas, actress Selma Hayek and the late astronaut-schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe.

The United States Committee for a Free Lebanon promotes a free and independent Lebanon and a withdrawal of Syrian occupation forces from the nation.

The group calls attention to the words of another famous Lebanese-American, poet Kahlil Gibran, who said: “We Lebanese-Americans and our families are proud of our heritage and proud to be Americans. It’s this pride that keeps us all asking, ‘What can we do for our country?’ – the good old U.S.A.”
