O’Reilly scorches Hillary
on ‘Tonight Show’

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is a big-spending, money-grubbing socialist who will run for the presidency in 2008 and lose.

That according to Fox News Channel host and WorldNetDaily columnist Bill O’Reilly who lashed into the former first lady on last night’s edition of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.

“She’s gonna run, there’s no question she’s gonna run, and you’ll have a clear-cut choice,” said the host of “The O’Reilly Factor.”

O’Reilly was the second of three guests on the program which also featured actor Freddie Prinze Jr. and singer Bryan Adams.

The senator and her office have repeatedly said Mrs. Clinton will serve out her complete six-year term as senator, but nothing has been said of her plans beyond 2006.

O’Reilly wasted no time ripping into the Democrat when asked by Leno if he “had it in” for her.

“I just feel that Hillary is a socialist, and I’m paying enough tax,” said O’Reilly. “Hillary wants to take my money, your money and Freddie’s money and give it to strangers. There’s something about that that offends me – I don’t know what.”

Mrs. Clinton made history two years ago by becoming the first presidential wife to run for Congress. Her victory shocked many political observers, including O’Reilly, himself a resident of New York.

“I never thought that she would win, but [her opponent Rick] Lazio wasn’t a great candidate,” he said.”Right after she won, she didn’t say ‘Gee, New York, thank you for electing me senator, especially ’cause I’ve never lived here and don’t know anything about you.’ She said, ‘You know what we have to do? We have to eliminate the Electoral College.’ And you know why? Because she’s running for president in 2008.”

O’Reilly was referring to remarks made by the newly elected senator who stated she’d introduce legislation to abolish the Electoral College and instead have a pure popular vote decide the next White House contest.

The current system mandated by the Constitution was thrown into focus in 2000 by the electoral victory by Republican George W. Bush in spite of the popular vote going to Democrat Al Gore. Bush was not declared the winner for more than a month, as a series of recounts and legal challenges all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court was needed to determine which candidate won Florida’s popular vote and corresponding 25 electoral votes to determine the final outcome.

O’Reilly hammered home the point that Sen. Clinton is not a friend to American taxpayers, saying she voted for every single spending bill last year. When asked why she’s so popular, he speculated it’s her constituency of unions and minorities keeping her afloat.

“Because that’s who’s gonna get the money that she takes from you and I and Freddie,” O’Reilly said to the actor. “Freddie, trust me, she’s taking your money! She’s coming to your house, gonna take your wallet right outta there.”

Even if Mrs. Clinton does seek the presidency, O’Reilly believes Americans will not vote her in.

“She can’t win. There’s nobody … west of Newark gonna vote for her. She’ll get Newark and in. But nobody in the Midwest, nobody in the South, because her value system [is] not their value system. … She’ll take California, she’ll win out here. But the heartland, no way.”

On other issues, O’Reilly called the management of U.S. intelligence agencies including the FBI and CIA “too stupid” for doing little to prevent the Sept. 11 attacks on America.

“The guys in Washington are usually political appointees who kiss butt, and that’s how they get promoted,” he said.

O’Reilly also thinks the federal government should have issued a public warning with any information about Osama bin Laden threats in the days before Sept. 11.

When O’Reilly suggested a scenario if bin Laden had personally come to knock on doors in the U.S., Leno quickly interjected “Americans would have said, ‘You know, I don’t want to discriminate – can I help you?'”
