A year ago, Arafat would speak to Arab leaders on a weekly basis. They would discuss the Israeli-Palestinian war, the Middle East situation, Iraq. In short, Arafat felt he was an Arab mover.
Not anymore. Jordan's King Abdullah sees Arafat as the enemy. Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah regards Arafat as a troublemaker and Egyptian President Mubarak is just fed up with Arafat's lies. Mubarak didn't even call Arafat after he returned from Washington earlier this month.

In the aftermath of the 1991 Gulf war, Arafat was in worse shape because of his support for Saddam. The difference this time, the sources said, is that Arafat is a lot older and after eight years as head of a corrupt mini-state nobody has any illusions of what his continued rule will mean.
