A lawsuit has been filed in federal court against Khalid Sheikh Mohammed – the alleged mastermind of the 9-11 attacks on the U.S. who was arrested last weekend – on behalf of a man whose wife was killed at the World Trade Center.
Judicial Watch, the Washington, D.C.-based public-interest law firm, filed the suit for the man, who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons.
According to a statement from Judicial Watch, the lawsuit seeks damages from Mohammed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The defendant, Mohammed, is a close associate of Osama bin Laden, the leader of terrorist network al-Qaida. Based in part on Mohammed’s own admissions, the lawsuit describes his alleged role in the Sept. 11 attacks and other plots to kill Americans.
“Finally, the perpetrators of terror who murdered our client’s wife are being brought to justice. The suit will help ensure that evildoers such as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will pay the price for their murderous conspiracies,” said Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman in the statement.
While U.S. officials have not revealed where Mohammed is being held, many reports speculate that he is at a secretive holding facility at the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan, in Bagram.
