Investigators in California are getting to the bottom of Scott Peterson’s change of hair color.
Citing sources close to the investigation, the Modesto Bee reports detectives used a search warrant to get a sample from the head of the California man, accused of murdering his wife, Laci, and unborn son, and to take a full-body photograph to assess the hair on his body.

Peterson’s hair and goatee were a bleached blond when agents arrested him April 18 after spotting him driving a Mercedes-Benz north of San Diego. Law enforcement sources said he was carrying $10,000 in cash, leading them to suspect he was attempting to flee the country.
Peterson’s friend, Mike Richardson, told NBC’s “Today” show last month that he attributed the color change to chlorine in a swimming pool.
“I asked him if he dyed his hair or something,” Richardson said. “And he said that he was swimming in a friend’s pool, and it got bleached.”
Should prosecutors determine otherwise, the information will deal another blow to Peterson’s credibility.
As WorldNetDaily reported, Peterson’s mistress came forward in January to contradict his denial of having had an affair.

Laci Peterson, 26, disappeared last Christmas eve. She was nearly eight months pregnant at the time.
Peterson, 30, said he last saw his wife when he left to go fishing in Berkeley. Her body and the remains of their unborn baby washed ashore in San Francisco Bay last month near where Peterson claimed he was fishing.
Peterson pleaded innocent to two counts of murder and faces the death penalty if convicted. He is being held without bail.
Judge Al Girolami sealed more court documents today at a hearing in Stanislaus County Superior Court after prosecutors argued releasing search warrants and witness affidavits would jeopardize their ongoing investigation.
Girolami said he would reconsider motions by three California newspapers to unseal them at a May 27 hearing.
