WND: I have a two-part question. First, what is the president doing at this point about finding Lt. Cmdr. Scott Speicher, who was shot down over Iraq during Gulf War I and is believed by many to be still alive inside the country?

MCCLELLAN: Les, I think that’s a question you need to direct to Central Command or the Pentagon. That’s a matter you need to address them.

MCCLELLAN: Absolutely. We’ve stated our –

WND: And the second part is, Amy Waters Yarsinske, who is a former Naval Reserve intelligence officer, says in her book on the Speicher incident that the Clinton administration basically abandoned Speicher by ignoring evidence of his survival and failing to take action to rescue him. Does the president support Sen. Pat Roberts’ and Sen. Bill Nelson’s efforts to have an independent investigation into how the government failed Scott Speicher and who was involved?

MCCLELLAN: Les, this is a matter we’re still pursuing. I think the specific questions are best directed to the Pentagon or Central Command about our efforts. Our thoughts are obviously with his family, as well.
