Following his first and only debate appearance last night, Arnold Schwarzenegger picked up an endorsement from former Republican rival Bill Simon, and is expected to secure the backing of Rep. Darrell Issa, the originator of the California gubernatorial recall.
Simon, who lost to Democratic Gov. Gray Davis last November, announced this afternoon he will back Schwarzenegger.

The San Diego County congressman, a multi-millionaire, drew from his personal wealth to finance the petition campaign that triggered the recall election, scheduled for Oct. 7.

Issa had planned to run for governor himself but decided against it after Schwarzenegger announced his candidacy. Simon entered the recall race but has withdrawn, though his name still appears on the ballot.
Another ex-candidate, Peter Ueberroth, will talk with Schwarzenegger and Republican rival Tom McClintock this weekend and announce whether he will make an endorsement, according to sources who spoke to CNN.
