Life is easy for the political left in America. There are no hard choices – no moral ambiguities. Things are either black or white. And at the end of the day, someone else is always left to pay the bill. That's why these kinds of morally unambiguous statements are easy for the left:

- Tree good. Logger cut down tree; logger bad. Environmentalist save tree; Environmentalist good.
- Public housing good; private property bad. Man with private property think he can do anything without asking. Government must regulate. Need more public housing.
- "Diversity" good. White people bad. Equal protection only apply to minorities (United States Supreme Court).
- Immigration good. Illegal immigration increase diversity; illegal immigration good. White people want to punish illegals for sneaking across border; white people bad.
- Public education good; private schools bad. Too many children from private schools go on to college. Results not fair.
- Public services good; private services bad. People want private service must pay. Government give freely to everybody, even from other countries.
- Rich people bad. Rich people got rich taking money from poor people. Poor people good. State must take money away from rich people; give to poor people, make fair.
- Criminal bad. Police worse. Police arrest criminal and put in jail. Not fair only criminal in jail. Guns and drugs are problem. Outlaw guns, legalize drugs, let everybody out of prison. No crime, no police, everybody good.
- Government hire everybody, do everything, pay everybody the same, give free to everyone. Private employer bad; hire only people he want to work. Pay them all different. Not fair. Why people buy from him?

Historically, the left has been quick to accuse the right of rigid, black or white, judgment-laden thinking. This is normally done when someone or something impedes the left's political agenda. The psychological term for accusing others of what you do that you don't approve of is called "projection." The left's agenda is called "progress." Those who resist the left's agenda therefore resist "progress." Maybe it's because they are "educated" in public schools they believed were "free," listen to news broadcasts by reporters and commentators who think Castro is way too far to the right, go to the local hospital emergency room to have their sexually transmitted diseases treated for "free," get admitted into a state-supported college or university with extra points for being (fill in your favorite color), pay for their education with the proceeds of federal student loans (forgiven if they become teachers), and then, when they graduate, go to work for local, state or federal government.
Only when they finally begin receiving a paycheck do they learn that the taxes supporting this government-funded "free" lifestyle are taken out of their paycheck before they ever see their wages. Usually, enough is taken out so they can file a short-form with the IRS and get a refund back at the end of the year. And for those who don't pay taxes, the IRS offers the "earned income" tax credit. This is where someone else pays your taxes, and the IRS sends you their refund.

Whatever do you suppose gives people today the silly idea that government must provide everything they need or want for "free"?
