Five transgender teens who attend New York's new public school for homosexuals, bisexuals and transgender youths have been arrested for dressing as female prostitutes and posing as police officers in order to steal from prospective johns.
Police say the Harvey Milk High School students successfully pulled off four separate Greenwich Village robberies last month, netting nearly $3,000.

Working in teams of two and three, the teens would seek out men looking for prostitutes in the West Village area of New York, flash a fake badge that read "Special Police" and handcuff them, according to local press reports.
They would then demand victims' wallets and PIN numbers for debit accounts and take cash and ATM cards, which they used later to make withdrawals.

"The victims believed they [the teens] were police officers," police told Newsday. "They would not have complied otherwise."
Officers told the paper they suspected the boys would play a good-cop-bad-cop routine, with one aggressively screaming at the robbery victims, while the other would gently say, "You're OK," release the man and add, "Consider yourself lucky" as they left.

The first robbery took place Oct. 5 on Greenwich Street, when two suspects approached a 24-year-old man, handcuffed him and took his wallet along with $1,200. Similar heists occurred on Oct. 27 and Oct. 29.
The most recent incident happened early yesterday when three suspects forced a victim against the wall at gunpoint and demanded his PIN. When the victim refused, they took $85 from his wallet and fled.
The New York Post reports an alert detective spotted one of the bogus officers around West 13th Street and Eighth Avenue at 3 a.m. Detective Andrew Rindler, recognized the bright-red hairdo of Gerald Howard, 17, from a wanted poster issued after authorities realized there had been a string of similar robberies.
Kevin "Keva" Williams, 17; Brian "Whoopi" Gonzalez, 17; Keenan "Channel" Oliver, 16 and Kelvin "Keesha" Howell, 17 were subsequently arrested along with Howard. They have been charged as adults.
