New website to rebut allegations

Trying to limit the influence of rumors in the media, embattled pop star Michael Jackson has set up a new website that will offer his official statements on the child-molestation charges he faces as he goes through the criminal process.

On www.MJnews.us, Jackson promises his fans they will find the truth at his site, though he admits, “I will be limited in what I can say about the situation.”

“As you know, the charges recently directed at me are terribly serious. They are, however, predicated on a big lie. This will be shown in court, and we will be able to put this horrible time behind us,” he writes on the site’s main page.

Jackson warns that most people appearing in the media described as his “friends, spokespeople and attorneys,” are not authorized to speak for him and that only statements appearing on the site will be considered official.

Said Jackson in a posted statement following his booking at a Santa Barbara sheriff’s station: “Lies run sprints, but the truth runs marathons. The truth will win this marathon in court.”

Thursday, a handcuffed Michael Jackson walked into the sheriff’s station to be booked on multiple counts of child molestation. The arrest warrant was issued by Santa Barbara County law-enforcement authorities following an extensive police search of Jackson’s Neverland ranch last Tuesday. The warrant, based on allegations brought by the 13-year-old cancer victim Gavin Arvizo, details a violation of Section 288(a) of the California Penal Code – which prohibits lewd or lascivious acts with a child under age 14.

After posting $3 million bond and surrendering his passport, Jackson was released.
