David DeBatto, who went from being too old to serve in the military to becoming a hero to the Iraqi people he helped free, will be Joseph Farah's guest today on his nationally syndicated radio talk show.
After the 9-11 attacks, DeBatto, a former instructor in the U.S. Army's Counterintelligence School, decided he needed to help his country fight the war on terror. When he attempted to re-enlist, however, he was told at 47 he was too old. Eventually, he was accepted into the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
In his capacity as a counterintelligence agent, he soon found himself participating in some of the worst fighting of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As leader of a tactical human intelligence team, DeBatto was responsible for tracking down and capturing high-level Iraqi "deck of cards" fugitives and al-Qaida terrorists. He became a popular figure to the Iraqis, some of whom waited hours in line to seek his advice. DeBatto says some Iraqis named children after him.
