Editor's note: Get the book that made Joseph Farah laugh for 6 straight hours. Burt Prelutsky is America's favorite humorist -- the man who invented political incorrectness. "Conservatives Are From Mars, Liberals Are From San Francisco," is available now in WND's online store, ShopNetDaily.
Recently, I read a news story that floored me. The part that made my jaw drop wasn't the $20 million reportedly raised by the Kerry campaign during the first quarter of the year. After all, half the people in America plan to vote for the senator. And once you factor in defense attorneys, most of the unions and a number of corporate fat cats, the $20 million doesn't sound like very much.

No, the part of the story that had me checking the contributors list twice – like Santa checking to see who's been naughty – was the rundown on show-biz donors. It was among the highly over-compensated, publicity-mad, liberal cant-spouting Hollywood mucky-mucks where I expected to find the greatest largesse. Well, as it happens, once again, they talk a good game, but apparently when the collection plate gets passed around, they're the ones whose wallet is always in their other jacket – the one that's at home, hanging in the closet.

OK, movie producer Steve Bing kicked in a cool $5 million and TV producer Marcy Carsey forked over a million bucks. But, heck, she was one of the three people who got to divvy up half a billion when "The Cosby Show" was syndicated. And that was only one of the sitcom goldmines owned by her and her partner Tom Werner. Where does she get off forking over such a paltry amount to rid the White House of arch villain George W. Bush?

But after Bing and Carsey, it's a steep drop to Paul Newman ($50,000), Norman Lear ($20,000) and Kevin Bacon ($15,000). And as if that's not bad enough, liberal zealot Rob Reiner coughed up a mere five grand, and Chevy Chase could only spare half that amount.
It gets worse. With the fate of the world at stake, between the two of them, sisters Nora and Delia Ephron only chipped in a grand.
I'm saving the real shocker for last. Hold on to your hats! Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon – after no doubt checking under the sofa cushions for loose change – came up with an embarrassing 500 smackers! Hell, they blow more than that on lunch.

Now, far be it from me to tell other people how to spend their money. I mean, if billionaire George Soros, who claims he hates President Bush even worse than I hate broccoli, is only willing to pony up a million dollars, that's his business. But it certainly calls his convictions into question. Or perhaps he's just not as rich as he says he is.
But, after looking at those numbers, don't you have to wonder how sincere these folks are when they make all those doomsday predictions about the future of Western Civilization if President Bush is re-elected?

So far as I can see, Hollywood is either filled with a bunch of lying hypocrites or they're the cheapest bastards in the world.
Or, just possibly, as some have suggested, it's not a case of "either /or," but of "and"!
