Let's stop beating around the bush. Why keep pretending we're a sovereign country? We are, of course – on paper. But in practice, despite the troops in uniform, the high sounding rhetoric of politicians and pundits, the flags on high and our history of defending liberty – we're giving it all away and no one seems to care.

I'll take that back. I care and I'll bet most Americans care, but the powers that be, our elected officials, don't pay much attention to us. They only want our vote every two or four years and, of course, they want our money.
Whether they call it taxes or fees or whatever other euphemism they can come up with, it all comes down to that not so funny joke that went around even before the Internet became what it is now. How much do you owe in taxes? How much do you make? Send it in.

It's always about money. While we pay through the nose for the "costs" of government, whether or not those costs are legitimate matters at all, the people who run the government, those elected and those appointed, continue to give it away or spend it with abandon.

There's no place where this is more evident than at our borders and in our attitude toward, and treatment of, people who sneak into this country. The very doing of their "sneaking" means they're here illegally. By "sneaking," they violate federal law. There was a time when such violations raised hackles. Today, many simply don't care.
Words used to have meaning and actions consequences. How pass?. Now, words mean what the speaker intends at any given moment, and actions only have consequences depending on the mood and attitude of the people in charge of dealing with the transgressions. The law has nothing to do with it.

Nowadays, the general attitude is Rodney King-ish. "Can't we all just get along?" Of course we can, and we do by caving in on "right and wrong" to say nothing of "legal and illegal." Generally speaking, the attitude is that if we give the dissenters/lawbreakers/rabble-rousers what they want – in the name of getting along – we'll have peace.
Of course, no one asks, what is the definition of "peace"? To militant Islam, peace is a world converted to Islam. The "world" they're talking about is the United States, Europe – and everything else.

Peace to militant Hispanics means taking back the land they say is, was and will always be theirs – namely, California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. They also wouldn't mind if we threw in Texas and Colorado and other states. In their agenda, gringos are in those states illegally and there'll be no "peace" until they get their "homeland" back.
The reality of what happens to those gringos, what happens to their belongings, businesses and the infrastructure their taxes, blood and sweat built, isn't addressed. The goal is to take it; gringos be damned.

If the law and the government don't pay close attention, we'll lose this war without a shot. Working below the radar over decades, people have been softened to feel pity and compassion for illegals. People feel guilty for the blessings of this country and the benefits that our form of government enables. Because we have so much, surely we should share. Give it away. Open the gates; let everyone in.
We still have immigration laws, and it's tough for everyone with white skin; but those in shades of tan have it easier, and illegals virtually get a free pass for our largesse. They have the sympathies of liberal bureaucracies and churches, which give these lawbreakers citizenship protections -- something they don't have and don't deserve. They deserve to be deported.
But they're here by the millions, with thousands more sneaking in weekly. It's illegal to hire them, but they work and nothing happens to the employers. Indeed, Mexico's President Vicente Fox boldly campaigns >in this country to have us (U.S.) grant visas to illegals so they can work here!
It should be illegal to school, medicate, feed, house and provide social services to illegals. Indeed, if put to a vote, most Americans would agree, but elected officials and the courts ignore the will of the people.
California is on the verge of granting illegals driver's licenses even though polls show two-thirds of the population oppose it. Proponents ignore that a license gives entr?e to virtually all citizenship benefits including voting, since you can register when you get the license and no proof of residency or citizenship is required.
Our government has just agreed to allow Mexican trucks to travel into this country even though we have no certain way to inspect them for smuggling or terrorism, to say nothing of the safety standards and driver training required for American vehicles.
Now we learn that Homeland Security has ordered $30 million in new U.S. Border Patrol uniforms from an American company that subbed it out to Mexicans! We're told the fabric is of lower quality and the uniforms are often sized too small. The label says "Made in Mexico."
It's a recipe for disaster. Shipments could be hijacked or uniforms stolen and sold to terrorists, drug dealers, alien smugglers or those who would impersonate or ambush our legitimate border patrol.
How generous. $30 million of U.S. taxes boost Mexico's economy and we open the border-door even wider.
Are we crazy?
