Communist China’s State Intellectual Property Office has overturned Pfizer’s patent for Viagra in China. China has repeatedly violated other patents, heisted technology, and violated music copyrights with impunity. When China was allowed to join the World Trade Organization, the Chinese promised to reform the flagrant patent infringement.

The United States and the European Union have the right to retaliate with higher tariffs against China, but so far American and European Governments have displayed little appetite to confront the Chinese.

In June of 2004, a record 8 billion dollars was invested into China by foreign firms. In addition to the cash investment, many companies have invested technology. As firms fall over themselves to pour money and technology into China, they should consider the fate of Pfizer and countless other companies that have had their patents and copyrights unashamedly violated.

All the while, the Chinese military is conducting military exercises to demonstrate that Taiwan could be successfully invaded. The massive military exercises include the coordination of navel, air, and landing craft forcers.

Rather than operating according to a traditional rule of law, China is governed by the rule of man. At the wave of the hand, policies, rules, and agreements can and do change. King Solomon wrote nearly three thousand years ago, “A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps” (Proverbs 14:15 NIV). China is engaging in stolen trade, not free trade with this action.

Investors need to give thought to their steps before investing in China. If not, they may wake up one day to discover that they have been taken to the cleaners. Be a wise investor and consider all the facts and information before pouring money and technology into China.
